From April 19th, 2025, LAID BUG will be hosting a solo exhibition by Vincent Grunwald.

Vincent Grunwald is a Berlin-based artist who works in a variety of media including drawing, video, and installation as well as mural painting. Vincent was greatly influenced by graffiti culture when he was a teenager. He studied fine art at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2006, followed by a year at the National University of the Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2008, he founded the art book label AKV Berlin with other artists of the same generation in Berlin, and has been actively producing art books.

In his work, Vincent constantly explores the relationship between words and images. He attempts to reveal how images associated with words change through a cynical view of structures of organization and control, such as forms of identity in state and corporate archival processes, and human relationships manifested in numerical/linguistic code systems.

The exhibition, entitled “Vertical Structures,” will feature a series of drawings that express typography structurally, viewing words as "structures that contain meaning. The series of drawings will be on display. By combining the linguistic and visual meanings of the words depicted, the exhibition takes an experimental approach to communication by extending the meaning of a single word and its visual capabilities. A new art book will be released in conjunction with this exhibition. Vincent has exhibited in Paris, Buenos Aires, New York, Milan, Belgrade, and elsewhere, and his first solo show in Japan has been realized with the support of Russell Maurice, a close friend of the artist.
